Renew a Kansas Cosmetology Practitioner License

Kansas Temporary Cosmetology Permit
Kansas offers an optional temporary permit for qualifying applicants who have completed their instructional training and are waiting to complete the Board examination process. A temporary-permit application cannot substitute for the practitioner-license application.

6-week expiration
The permit is issued with an expiration date six weeks after the examination date.
One permit only
Kansas allows only one temporary permit per applicant and says it cannot be extended.
The Board states that the permit becomes null and void if the applicant fails an examination, even if the printed permit expiration date has not yet arrived. Services may be provided only after the permit is actually issued and only in a licensed establishment.
Transfer an Out-of-State License to Kansas
Kansas evaluates an out-of-state applicant’s profession, training hours, active-license status and other qualifying circumstances before assigning the final licensure route. Do not use the out-of-state application to renew or reinstate a Kansas license that was previously issued.
