2026 Lawful-Presence Request: What Texas Applicants Should Do

TDLR’s lawful-presence documentation process has operated since January 26, 2026, and the related rule took effect May 1, 2026. Selected initial and renewal applicants may be asked for documentation; not every applicant receives a request.

Do not send documents only because you read about the rule. For a renewal, wait until TDLR requests documentation. Initial applicants should follow the instructions attached to their application process. Sending unrequested or original documents can create confusion and originals will not be returned.
