How to Get an Illinois Cosmetology License
The applicant must also satisfy Illinois’s school-attendance or secondary-education condition.
The licensed cosmetology program must extend over at least eight months.

For a normal nonexempt cosmetologist renewal, the June 2026 IDFPR fact sheet describes a 14-hour total: one hour of sexual-harassment-prevention training plus 13 hours in approved subject areas.
