Texas 60-Day Temporary Cosmetology License After the Practical Exam
TDLR currently allows eligible students in several exam-based categories to receive a temporary license immediately from PSI after passing the practical examination. This is not automatic for every candidate.
Apply and pay before the written exam

Old Texas Cosmetology License Number? Use the New License ID Search
Texas changed some barbering, cosmetology and establishment license identifiers. If a valid older number does not match a current account, notice or public record, use TDLR’s New License ID Search instead of assuming the credential disappeared.

The current CE structure took effect September 1, 2025. Complete approved education during the license period and keep your own completion certificate even though the provider reports the course electronically.

TDLR began its current lawful-presence verification process on January 26, 2026, and the related rule took effect May 1, 2026. Not every applicant or licensee is asked for additional documents.

Follow the instructions for your own application or renewal, submit only acceptable documents, upload clear and complete copies and keep proof that the files were submitted.
Do not send originals
TDLR instructs applicants not to mail or bring original identity or immigration documents. Originals will not be accepted and will not be returned.
If requested information is not provided for a renewal, the existing license can expire on its scheduled expiration date. A new application can remain open for up to one year before expiring when required documents are not supplied.
